1989 SABBA Adelaide Invitational Physique Classic: Show
This was the first time that a national component was added to South Australia’s Adelaide Physique Classic, hence the title Invitational Physique Classic. The event was staged on April 9th, 1989 in the luxurious new Adelaide Convention Centre. David Renouf, well known bodybuilding promoter from Perth, Western Australia brought his championship state team to Adelaide for the event.
The Invitational Classic section was for the various class winners, male and female, to take part in. The judging of this final class took place during the exciting Invitational posedown.
Charles Clairmonte, NABBA Professional Mr. Universe for 1988 was the special international guest poser. Those younger fans of today who remember Charlie as a Mr. Olympia competitor, and Grand Prix winner probably would not know that he won the NABBA Universe 4 times before he went into IFBB competition. This was a major contest with one of the best guest posers ever seen in Australia.

Charles presented a massive, but refined physique. We also shot a feature with him while he was in Adelaide. This South Australian Physique Classic contest was run under NABBA rules. It was most pleasing to see local star LEE-ANNE CAMPION really clean up by winning 3 classes, a feat never seen before. The DVD includes all of the routines, posedowns and awards.
The main CLASS WINNERS were as follows:
Men’s Invitational – Gary Tchernakoff (WA)
Men’s Open – Vince Simonetta
Men’s Masters – Jackie Kirk
Men’s Junior – Roy Visser
Men’s Novice – Jim Kawahia
Men’s Teenage – Lyndon Howard
