1991 NABBA Australian Championships: The Men – Prejudging & Show
The 1991 NABBA Australian National Bodybuilding Championships was a magnificent event with over 45 competitors. It was an event of ‘firsts’:
It was the first time the nationals had been held in Perth, Western Australia. Staged at the huge Burswood Convention Centre on September 22nd, 1991.
It presented an extra men’s open class (5’5″ – 165cm and under).
COLIN HALL winning the teenage class for the second consecutive year (and his 3rd national NABBA title), also a first.
The dominating appearance of former IFBB champion and runner-up in the 1984 Las Vegas World Championships – GRAEME LANCEFIELD. Graeme went on to win the first ever MASTERS NABBA UNIVERSE in London 2 weeks later. He is currently NABBA President for Australia.
Overall Open Men’s winner GARY TCHERNAKOFF had a physique reminiscent of a Sherman Tank crossed with a pocket battleship! Muscle density, ripped to shreds – well balanced, and a unique posing routine. He had it all and is pictured front cover.
The other men’s height class winners were GLEN PURTELL in Class 3, SERGIO DE SANTIS in Class 2, and ANTHONY FAVALORO in Tall Class 1.
In the Junior Men, JOHNNY VALENTINO edged out ARTHUR TSIMBOURIS in a very close decision that could have gone either way.
GRAEME LANCEFIELD took out the Masters division from Doug Powell and Don Mahoney. What a class!
