We are sad to report the recent death of Jurgen Brand, Junior Mr. Germany in 1973. In 1982 he won the German Championships in the light-heavyweight class and has also represented Germany in international amateur contests.

Besides being a fine athlete, he ran a successful gym in Essen for a long period of time, coached many athletes and was an mentor for a young Ralf Moeller in the late 1970s.

As far as we know he suffered from Diabetes but the cause of his death has not yet been stated.

In 1975 I had a short photo and film shoot with him in Esssen at the major shoot I had that day with Norbert Albrecht. Here is what I wrote:

NORBERT ALBRECHT is a tall, lean and very muscular European Physique champion. Filmed in Essen in 1975, Norbert is a Junior and Open Mr. Germany title holder. He is also a NABBA Universe competitor. The video includes gym workout plus posing.

In the last minute or so, Junior Mr. Germany JURGEN BRAND comes in for some duo posing followed by some solo poses at the Saalbau Lake and in the gym. Brand is off-season but has some nice size, with great arms. The scene can be seen in GMV Legends Collection # 4.
